Patrick J. Kernan is a transactional attorney whose Northern California practice focuses on corporate, real estate, land use, employment, intellectual property, health, commercial finance, and sports and entertainment law.
General Corporate Transactional
Prior to founding the Law Offices of Patrick J. Kernan in 2007, Mr. Kernan was a partner and shareholder at Riegels Campos & Kenyon, LLP in Sacramento. He represented private sector clients in business and real estate transactions and issues of commercial finance.
Mr. Kernan was Vice President and General Counsel for the ValleyCare Health System in Pleasanton for three years, and established an in-house law department that was responsible for all legal affairs of a two-hospital nonprofit corporation
Four years earlier in Pleasanton, Mr. Kernan founded and managed a satellite office of San Jose-based Hoge Fenton Jones & Appel, Inc. Mr. Kernan, a shareholder in the firm, eventually oversaw 14 attorneys in the satellite office.
For 11 years, Mr. Kernan was general counsel to Cooperative Computing, Inc. and F/K/A Triad Systems Corporation, both companies based in Livermore. CCI is an international private company and Triad an international NASDAQ company. Mr. Kernan handled numerous acquisitions, mergers, public debt financings, all human resource and benefit issues (including ERISA and 401K Plan administration), litigation, and legal matters related to SEC, FTC, international law, debt financing, equipment leasing, intellectual property and corporate management.
From 1982-1986, Mr. Kernan was Asset Lending Base Counsel for Ingersoll-Rand Financial Corporation, where he provided day-to-day legal advice for a national commercial asset-based lending and commercial equipment leasing company. Before that, he was Associate General Counsel for Equico Lessors, Inc, a national equipment leasing company.
Education
Mr. Kernan received his bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in 1972 and his law degree from William Mitchell College of Law in 1976.
